2008
Dear Connecticut Spa & Pool Industry Professionals,
Finally!!
The State of Connecticut, new Veterans’ Health Center in Rocky Hill, CT, is completed. The Dedication and Ribbon cutting took place on Thursday, May 22, 2008.
As you may know, the Labor Department would not allow us into the project, until the hospital was completed, and that’s another story. But, now that the hospital is complete, we can move forward.
Because the Connecticut Spa & Pool Association (CONSPA) believes in warm water therapy, to help our heroes recuperate, the following is a description of the two (2) pools that will be constructed.
1.
Therapeutic Pool:
The 15’ x 30’ therapeutic pool contains a 7’x7’ spa and other
therapeutic water features with specialized handicap equipment to make it
easier to get in and out of the water.
2.
Exercise/Recreational Pool:
Adjacent to the therapeutic pool will be an exercise/recreational pool,
30’ x 50’ with wheelchair accessible ramp and lifts, to make it easy to get
in and out of the water. Numerous exercise bars and other
therapeutic equipment will be installed on both pools. Both pools will be
heated for warm water therapy and relaxation, and fully equipped with the
latest filter plants. These pools will provide the veterans with the
opportunity to get hydrotherapy and recreation, without having to leave the
hospital. Incidentally, the Rocky Hill Veterans’ Home & Hospital is a state
run hospital. The other two (2) Veterans’ Hospitals in Connecticut
(Newington and New Haven), are federal hospitals. The Rocky Hill pools also
will benefit patients in Newington and New Haven, who will be transported by
bus to use the facilities, several times a day. Further, these pools are
open to all vets (past, present and future). The important factor is
that we hope to be able to start the project by September 2008 and finish by
Spring 2009, the best time for us to build.
The fund for this whole commitment has been named “POOLS FOR OUR HEROES”.
We are looking for people to donate labor and/or materials. If you can’t, then please consider donating money to help us with this worthwhile project.
When this project is completed, we will install, at an appropriate place, a bronze plate with the names of the donors, so that the people who have helped with this project will be recognized forever.
Remember, these hospitals are filled with the people that have put their lives on the lines, and continue to put their lives on the lines, to protect you, Americans, and our way of life. Please be generous and give all you can.
Please make checks payable to “Pools for Our Heroes”. CONSPA mailing address is:
